A Game of Thrones - Nail Art Inspired by a Book

Hey everyone! I'm going to interview again on Friday, this time at Princeton University. I'm leaving tomorrow though so I can take a side trip to New York City and visit some of my boyfriend's family. I'll try and get enough posts ready to cover my absence, but I won't be back until Sunday.

Anyway, day 24 of the 31 Day Challenge asks for nail art that is inspired by a book, and I chose A Game of Thrones from the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin.

I know the sigils I used for this manicure come from the TV show, but I like the way they look a bit better than the book versions. I chose the sigils of the Lannisters, Starks, Baratheons, and Targaryens because I felt they were the most prominent houses in the first book. These nails were done using the homemade decal method. Instead of my usual topcoat, I tried the new Julep Freedon Polymer Top Coat. It is supposed to create a gel-like shine on the nails, and it worked pretty well with these! I only needed one layer of top coat instead of the usual 3 or so that are required when I use homemade decals.

For those of you who have never heard of A Game of Thrones, here's one of  the covers! It comes in all sorts of sizes and colors. Go and get yourself a copy! Or if you're not a huge fan of reading, the HBO show is also pretty fantastic.

Thanks for reading!

  • Sooooo. This is awesome. Then I went and read your tutorial on how to do the decals...well that is just as awesome. Thanks for sharing all that information.

Dun know if I could ever accomplish it, but I bookmarked that tutorial for possible future reference.

    Thanks!
